Welcome to the Medical Image Computing Lab

We are a research group at the United Arab Emirates University, Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Our lab focuses on developing AI and machine learning solutions for medical image analysis, cancer diagnostics, and cerebrovascular modeling.

Research Focus

Our research spans several key areas in medical AI and computational biology:

  • Medical Image Analysis: Advanced algorithms for MRI, CT, and microscopy imaging
  • AI for Cancer Diagnostics: Foundation models for precision oncopathology
  • Cerebrovascular Modeling: Network analysis and hemodynamic simulations
  • Brain Connectivity: Deep learning approaches to structural connectivity analysis
  • Computer-Aided Diagnostics: Automated systems for clinical decision support

Open Source Tools

We develop and maintain several open-source software tools:

  • VascGraph - Vascular network segmentation and analysis
  • VirtualMRI - Monte Carlo simulation of MRI responses
  • AngioPulse - Pulsatile blood flow dynamics simulation

Collaborations

We collaborate with leading institutions worldwide including McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, American University in Cairo, University of Arizona, and Emory University.

Funding

Our research is supported by strategic grants including the UAEU Strategic Research Program (AED 737K), joint research programs with American University of Antigua (AED 300K), and UAEU Advanced Research Awards.
